G1 winning stallion prospect by War Front

by Byron Rogers - The great horseman John Nerud frequently noted that in North America "the best milers make the best sires," and time has shown that there is a good deal of evidence that agrees with this observation with breed shaping sires Mr. Prospector, Storm Cat, Seattle Slew and more modern greats in Distorted Humor and Tapit proving their best at or near that distance.

A graded stakes winner at three, four and five, Jack Milton was brilliant over a mile, and as a son of the leading sire War Front from a high class Claiborne Farm family responsible for an Eclipse Award winning two year old, has all the credentials to follow these sires to stud success.

Breaking his maiden at first asking, Jack Milton won the 2015 Maker's 46 Mile Stakes (gr. I) at Keeneland, one of his eight starts in graded stakes for trainer Todd Pletcher. Jack Milton was also the winner of the 2013 Transylvania Stakes (gr. III) and the 2014 Poker Stakes (gr. III). He retired winning or placing in 12 of his 19 starts for earnings of $853,828.

Jack Milton is a son of the internationally successful sire War Front, a son of Danzig. War Front’s 2015 Grade or Group One winners include Champion European Two Year Old elect Air Force Blue, Jack Milton and Helene Superstar who combine in War Front’s nine career Group or Grade one winners, twenty grade/group stakes winners and forty stakes winners to date as a sire. With over half a dozen sons already at stud, War Front’s career has followed the trajectory of his own sire Danzig proving himself the unique ability to sire high class runners on both turf and dirt, a rare characteristic shared only by those sires that have true breed shaping capabilities.

Jack Milton is out of a mare by the Mr Prospector son Forty Niner. A similar combination of Danzig and Forty Niner in his pedigree, can be found in leading sire Distorted Humor. A full brother to the Grade 3 winner Peace Preserver, Jack Milton hails from the family of the ill-fated successful sire and Eclipse Award-winning champion male juvenile War Pass, Spinaway Stakes (gr. I) winner Oath and Ashland Stakes (gr. I) winner Karlovy Vary. Jack Milton’s pedigree gives him license to become a leading sire, but his performances at a mile where both speed and stamina are required, make him an outstanding sire prospect.
